Let’s talk about improving your handwriting! Like any skill, the best way to improve is with proper guidance and practice. In this workshop, Salman Khattak will guide you in bettering your handwriting and penmanship so you can feel comfortable and confident in your calligraphy journey, writing cursive in your snail mail to your pen friends, and more. Get ready to make your journals and correspondences look extra fantastic!

Please bring a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil of your choosing as well as paper – preferably a blank Rhodia pad for use with the provided guidelines.

Pilot Parallel calligraphy fountain pens are great tools for broad edge scripts, flourishing, decorating, and more. In this workshop, you’ll explore the joy and potential of your new Pilot Parallel pens. Azizah will teach you all about assembly/disassembly, inking and “eyedroppering,” using the pen on paper, blending inks, creating gradients, fun with splatters, and more! No experience is required and attendees will be encouraged to follow along. All supplies will be provided (and are yours to take home). If you love to work in your own notebooks, feel free to bring a suitable fountain pen-friendly notebook of your own to practice in (Tomoe River, Rhodia).

Description:
Join Salman Khattak to explore the variety of modern calligraphy styles, lettering, and textures that can be produced with a Pilot Parallel Pen modified to write like a Folded Pen. The Folded Pen is a type of ruling pen, which allows users to create thick and thin lines by adjusting one’s angle. You will learn several techniques to get the most out of your pen and you will follow along with demonstrations on angles, pressures, and speed, texturing, letter play, and layout.

All supplies will be provided (and are yours to take home). No experience is required. Show up with an enthusiasm to explore a different way to enjoy pens and inks!
All supplies provided but we suggest students bring a suitable fountain pen-friendly notebook for your practice (i.e. Tomoe River, Rhodia).

Do you have a superabundance of ink samples, oodles of ink bottles, plenty of paper, and a thirst for creating inky messes? Join Azizah Asgarali for this very fun, probably very inky, and definitely creative and artsy workshop! Using a handmade folded nib and a straight holder, you will learn all about ink slinging, inky splatter, and you’ll learn how to enjoy all your existing goodies while creating some unique and spectacular art.

Bring a change of clothes, dark clothing, a smock, or any other clothing you don’t mind getting ink on.

1 C2PO folded brass nib
Straight holder
Please bring your own notebooks and papers to experiment with!

This will be a fun, relaxing “pen meet” where you can try out cool tools and ask questions about your own supplies! Taking pictures and making ink friends and ink splatters will be encouraged.

First time at a pen show? Love pens but not entirely sure about fountain pens? Are you already familiar with fountain pens but you want to dive in a little deeper and talk about nibs, inks, and paper? Join Azizah Asgarali for this comprehensive introduction to fountain pens and their friends (that is, ink and paper!). You’ll learn about the parts of a fountain pen, common filling mechanisms, prepping a new pen, nib sizes, cleaning and maintaining your pen, paper, and ink. This workshop will end with a tour of the pen show floor to help you get a feel for the show – this is a great way to scan the tables and make a pen show buddy!
